Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is an action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Players take on the role of Cal Kestis, a surviving Jedi Padawan who is on the run from the Empire.
As Cal, players must use the Force to complete puzzles and battle enemies while exploring a rich galaxy of exotic planets. Along the way, they will meet a variety of allies and enemies and discover the truth behind the Empire’s sinister plans.
When does Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Take Place:
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order takes place in the Star Wars universe shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith when the Jedi Order has been all but wiped out by the Galactic Empire as a result of Order 66 and the purge of the Jedi.
Your journey begins as a young Jedi Padawan by the name of Cal Kestis, who has been hiding out on a scrapper planet called Bracca to avoid detection by the Empire.
After saving the life of his only companion at the time, Cal is discovered by the Empire’s Purge Troopers and forced to flee the planet to avoid being captured and killed by the Second Sister.
To escape Bracca, Cere Junda and Greeze Dritus, Cere being a former Jedi Knight, and Greeze being the captain of the Stinger Mantis, rescue Cal before the Second Sister cuts him down.
Shortly after this trio comes together, they set off on a mission across the galaxy to scavenge planets for clues on the location of several force-sensitive children hidden by a former Jedi Master with the hopes of rebuilding the Jedi Order.
Gameplay Combat:
Jedi Fallen Order’s gameplay is, in the best way I can explain it, what you would get if Darksouls and Uncharted got together and had a force-sensitive child.
If you’re a Darksouls fan, there are several combat elements that you will find in Jedi Fallen Order. A few examples are block-breaking using parry windows, respawning enemies when meditating or when dying, and losing XP when dying in combat that will feel familiar.
There are a few elements that make this style of combat engaging and addicting to me. The first thing I love about this play style is that it forces me to think about and consider my item consumption since I have no idea how many enemies are between me and the next checkpoint.
Second, I have to debate the risk of going back and starting over again or taking my chances by continuing in hopes of finding the next meditation checkpoint.
Which Star Wars Game Offers a Better Jedi Experience: Jedi Under Siege or Jedi Fallen Order?
Are you searching for a thrilling journey within the Star Wars galaxy? The Star Wars Jedi Under Siege review showcases an exciting game. Nevertheless, when put side by side with Jedi Fallen Order, the latter emerges as the superior Jedi adventure. Jedi Fallen Order captivates audiences with its engaging narrative, intricate gameplay, and breathtaking visuals, making it the prime selection for enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the Force and marking it as the favored option for die-hard Star Wars fans.
Gameplay Movement:
For the Uncharted fans out there, this game is chock-full of climbing, rope swinging, wall running, and plenty of puzzles in every zone to keep your mind sharp and force you to think about everything you’ve seen to aid you in your progression through the worlds.
My biggest worry with Jedi Fallen Order was that it would be way too linear and that by the time I discovered each new planet, I would already have unlocked enough force powers/abilities to do everything I could do on them.
Thankfully, I was mistaken; the game developers at Respawn did a fantastic job giving you plenty to come back and explore. Whether it was story-driven content or unlocking that next cosmetic item or saber hilt, I found myself continually going back and forth between planets to discover new areas.
As a downside, if you were looking for a game like KOTOR or SWTOR, where the decision-making would alter your character as light or dark, you will be disappointed.
Unfortunately, there are no red or black kyber crystals or dark side force abilities, although it would be sweet to blast force lightning around in the arena. Maybe we will see some mods pop up in the future, allowing for us to give in to the dark side just a little bit, please?
Graphics:
If you’ve read any of my reviews before or ever watched any of my streams, you’ll know that I love a game with beautiful graphics, and Jedi Fallen Order delivers stunning world detail and gorgeous combat sequences. I have nothing negative to say about the work Respawn put into this game, graphic-wise.
Even BD-1, your cute little companion droid, has stunning detail and a wide variety of color customizations you can find throughout the galaxy as you explore.
As far as graphics optimization, the game performs quite well with only a few hiccups here and there when coming into large new zones, which can cause a stuttering or sharp drop in frames for a second or two on my PC running ultra settings.
From my research, both the Xbox and PS4 versions experience this same frame drop from time to time, yet it always seems to clear up before anything significant happens or combat begins.
Overall:
After playing through Jedi Fallen Order for hours and hours on end, dying countless times in the beginning while I learned the parry window timing and progressively getting stronger and stronger as the game progressed, I found myself completely immersed and enjoying every moment. In short of a New Game Plus mode, I have very few things I find myself wanting to add to this game.
There are talks of DLC content coming or possibly a sequel to this story from EA and Respawn interviews in the past and comments made since its launch. I can only say that what Respawn did with Jedi Fallen Order is spectacular and is hands down one of the best Star Wars games of this decade. Whether or not we get a sequel to this title, I would love to see this group produce another Star Wars game in the future.
*Update* We can now confirm that a sequel to Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order is coming on April 28, 2023, called “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”
